The Second Session of the 100th Nebraska Legislature convened in Lincoln on January 9, 2008. The Session is scheduled to adjourn sine die on April 17th. Key dates in the 2008 session are February 22nd, which is the deadline for the standing committees and individual senators to designate their priority bills. Each Senator is allowed to designate one bill as a priority measure, with the committees allowed to designate two such bills. Subsequently, the Speaker of the Legislature may designate up to 25 bills as Speaker's priority measures. A current list of priority bills is available at the Legislature's website, www.nebraskalegislature.gov. Public hearings for this year's session are expected to conclude on February 28th, which leads into a legislative recess. When senators reconvene on March 4th, they will begin all-day sessions. The filing deadline for candidates to the Legislature is February 15th for incumbents and March 3rd for non-incumbents. A list of candidates by legislative district can be found at the Nebraska Secretary of State's website, www.sos.ne.gov.
